Any signing party must sign in the presence of a notary public.
What about documents with multiple signers?
If a document has:
Two spouses
Business partners
Multiple family members
Any other co-signers
…then each of those people must attend to sign in the presence of a notary public (it might be a different notary public, depending on the circumstances), we cannot notarize someone’s signature if they are not present.
What if someone already signed before arriving in front of a notary public?
You will still need to sign the document in the presence of the notary public.
What about witnesses?
Some documents require witnesses. If your document requires a witness (or multiple witnesses):
Bring your witness(es) with you
In some cases, the notary public acts as a witness — but this depends on the document and the situation
Is my signature always required?
No, some documents require only the notary public's signature, such as, when certifying a true copy of an original document.
If you’re ever unsure who needs to attend, it’s best to check before you arrive so there are no delays or repeat visits.
